I worked in a call center for 2 ½ days. The job was definitely not for me. Don’t get me wrong – I love talking to people. And, I still consider the phone call a method of communication, unlike most people that simply text or email. Unfortunately, my small time spent at the call center was occupied listening to people’s answering machines or repeating myself because I had a poor headset. To make matters worse, I was responsible to pay for the headset. And, all day long, whenever someone answered the phone all I heard was, “can you speak up,” or, “I can’t hear you.” This is very frustrating to hear, especially when you are known for being an unusually loud talker.

I wonder if the company had invested in better headsets, that their employees did not have to pay for, if I would have lasted longer. Maybe. A poor headset was a difficult obstacle to overcome. And, for a customer service driven company, it is a poor reflection of the type of service you are offering.

Apparently, the top customer service companies understand the need for excellent headsets. 24 out of the 25 top customer service companies all use Plantronics Headsets to ensure their customers are receiving the best service. If you are in the customer service industry, learn by example. When it comes to headset, you do not want to cut costs. Buy the best, buy Plantrontics.
